3 buyout bigs for Cavs to upgrade bench: Drew Eubanks

In the NBA Bubble, the San Antonio Spurs made some noise in going 5-3, all the more impressive given the absence of several key veterans in Orlando. That provided an opportunity for a second-year center named Drew Eubanks to see some run, and he responded with a number of strong games to put his name on the NBA map.

Since then Eubanks has not been able to carve out a more robust role, but he was a consistent bench option for the Spurs at center, playing in 49 games this season and averaging 12.1 minutes per game. His per-36 numbers continue to be excellent (13.8 points and 11.9 rebounds) and he is the perfect player to deploy in small spurts.

Although just 25 years old, Eubanks was traded to the Toronto Raptors at the deadline as part of the Thaddeus Young / Goran Dragic deal, but then promptly waived. He is a free agent now, and an excellent candidate to be scooped up by some team. The Cavs could try to entice him to come into town not simply for the rest of this season, but perhaps for next year as well on a non-guaranteed deal.

Whether Millsap, Lopez, Eubanks or someone else, it would behoove the Cavs to consider other options on the market. With a roster spot opened up from the waiving of Kevin Pangos, and another potentially freed by doing the same to Ed Davis, there is an opportunity to mine the market and add a piece that can help them compete in April and May.
