3 buyout bigs for Cavs to upgrade bench: Robin Lopez

Robin Lopez is the quintessential journeyman big, on his eighth team in his 13-year career. Now 33 years old, Lopez has shown himself to still be a viable rotation player despite being trapped in Orlando. Last year he played a key role on a playoff team in Washington, unleashing his killer hook shot.

This season he signed a one-year deal with the Magic, presumably to live close to his favorite place on earth, Walt Disney World. With Wendell Carter Jr., Mo Bamba, Mo Wagner and (sometime) Jonathan Isaac all on the roster, and the Magic not particularly interested in winning games, there is little reason for Lopez to stick around.

If he is bought out, many predict a reunion with his twin brother Brook in Milwaukee. Yet another intriguing option for him could be the Cavaliers. Given their desire to play big, Lopez would likely play significant minutes if Jarrett Allen were to miss any time. The Cavs can also offer more money than the Bucks; that means more merch to be bought at Disney World.

The Bucks made a deadline trade for Serge Ibaka, so they may not be looking to pick up another pure center. Teams like the 76ers or Mavericks could also try to entice him to join. Yet he would be a solid two-way center for the Cavs to acquire to ensure they aren’t left without any viable options should one of their key players go down.
