It was no secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers needed another wing scorer/playmaker before the NBA trade deadline last week after Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio were lost for the season.

While many teams waited until hours before the much-anticipated Feb. 10 deadline to make their move, Cleveland identified their man and pulled the trigger to acquire wing Caris LeVert from the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 6.

In acquiring LeVert, the Cavaliers added a versatile scorer who can handle the ball but can also play off the ball, which can add another element to Cleveland’s offense, both in set situations and in transition. It gives emerging star lead guard Darius Garland some much-needed help as well, so if teams overplay him, Garland can kick the ball to LeVert for considerable stretches, and he can create for the team.

LeVert’s final game in a Pacer uniform gave the Cavaliers a glimpse at what they’d be adding to their team from a perimeter perspective. In that game against the Chicago Bulls, LeVert would connect on 19-of-26 from the floor for a season-best 42 points.

LeVert averages 18.2 points per game and is connecting on 44 percent from the floor. However, the three-point shot has not been a strength of LeVert’s this season as he is only hitting 32 percent from long distance.

Before diving into the two early takeaways of LeVert’s time with the Cavs so far, it has only been four games, so while some will choose to overreact to a tiny sample size, I will not be one of them.
