Which Cavs players made the most All-Star games in Cleveland?
19 players have made a total of 42 All-Star Games while with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen join the packed single-appearance club, while nine players have made multiple All-Star Games with the club.
1 All-Star Game
Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, Mo Williams, Shawn Kemp, Tyrone Hill, Mike Mitchell, Campy Russell, Austin Carr, Lenny Wilkens, Butch Beard
Garland and Allen are starting a new generation of Cavaliers stars, and along with Evan Mobley should move out of this group. Most of the rest of the players fall into two categories. There are the “in between” players who show up between the star-packed Cleveland teams of the early 1990s and the ensemble-cast LeBron James led to a title in 2016.
Mo Williams was the kind of player who makes an All-Star team because his team is too good not to have multiple All-Stars. He put up points but, as was proven in the postseason multiple times, was not a legitimate wingman for James. Shawn Kemp and Tyrone Hill both had strong seasons for Cavs teams struggling to stay relevant without the dominant core from the early 1990s.
Out final group are the “early Cavs” of the team’s first decade. In a much smaller league the Cavs saw their “best player” make the team in a number of seasons. John Johnson (below) made the team twice, but after him it was one-and-done for Butch Beard, Lenny Wilkens, Austin Carr, Campy Russell and Mike Mitchell from 1971 to 1981.
2 All-Star Games
Kevin Love, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Terrell Brandon, Larry Nance, John Johnson
Many of the players to make two All-Star Games with the Cavs were prolific big men playing alongside dynamic and more-decorated perimeter creators. “Big Z” was a force down low but only racked up his two appearances when James showed up. Terrell Brandon went from Sixth Man to All-Star in the vacuum left by departed stars but then quickly faded into the background. Nance made just 2 All-Star Games playing alongside Mark Price and Brad Daughtery, but could have racked up more on another team.
4 All-Star Games
Kyrie Irving, Mark Price
Until Darius Garland makes his case, the two greatest point guards in franchise history each made four All-Star Games with the franchise. Irving’s feat is somewhat more impressive given that he made the team twice while on losing teams, which is difficult to do (shouts to Dejounte Murray for pulling it off this season). Price led the Cavaliers through their golden era and was best known for his deadeye shooting.
5 All-Star Games
Brad Daughtery
While Price made four All-NBA teams to go with his four All-Star appearances, Daughtery checks in at second on the Cavs’ all-time All-Star list with five appearances, although he made All-NBA just once. The 7-foot center played just eight seasons in the NBA but was dominant in all of them, an underrated passer with a feather touch around the basket. If injuries hadn’t cut him down he would have racked up even more All-Star nods.
10 All-Star Games
LeBron James
Unsurprisingly,The King leads the way. He doubles up the next player here in All-Star selections with the Cavaliers. He has made the All-Star Team in every season since his rookie year, including ten of his eleven seasons in the Wine and Gold. All three of his All-Star MVP awards came with the Cavs as well. The odds of Evan Mobley or Darius Garland reaching James’ lofty total is slim, although not impossible; 49 players have made at least nine All-Star games.
