3 buyout candidates for the Cavs to consider signing: Ben McLemore

The Cavs addressed their secondary playmaking need by trading for Caris LeVert, and he can also help with their late-game shotmaking. Where he won’t help in a major way is as an off-ball shooter. Cedi Osman is having a great season in such a role, but there isn’t anyone else in the rotation who could replace him were he to go down.

Ben McLemore is not a very flashy name, but the former Kansas star has developed into a willing and accurate shooter, spotting up and accepting a low usage role. He has been on a series of struggling teams the past few seasons, losing quickly the years he did make it to the postseason. He has only 15 playoff games in two seasons, and could be looking for a winning situation to add to that total.

He could come off the bench and play a few minutes here or there, but his real value would be with an injury to Cedi Osman (or another injury to Lauri Markkanen). He is shooting 37.7 percent from deep while hoisting 11.9 3-pointers per-36 minutes. By comparison, Garland shoots seven 3-pointers per-36.

McLemore isn’t elite at the defense part of “3-and-D” but he won’t be the weak point either. He’s a good role player who may come available and would be a boon to the Cavs’ chances at surviving injuries in the playoffs.
