I’m just going to be honest. When the Cleveland Cavaliers traded away Ricky Rubio’s contract, and their 2022 first-round draft pick to the Indiana Pacers for Caris LeVert (lottery-protected), a small part of me died inside. With no first-round selections, likely, I really had no reason to keep on posting my viewing guides, or even bother worrying about the upcoming draft. But, the Pacers ended up sending the Cavs a second-round selection via the Miami Heat, and Cleveland still has its second-round pick this draft via the San Antonio Spurs.

So, while you may not get a chance to see of the best stars in action, I’ll be able to point out a few matchups weekly, with a player or two that the Cavaliers might be interested in with either of their second-round picks. This weekend you’ll get the chance to take a look at two young point guards who have very high ceilings, but could still fall out of the first round for the front office to jump at.

As I’m sure some of you saw this week, for the fifth time this season a number one team has fallen. Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers fell to Arkansas on the road this week. There were some pretty interesting things that happened that night, but still another number one goes down. Well Arkansas has another stiff test in front of them this weekend versus rival Alabama.

JD Davison, the freshman point guard for the Tide, is a player whose seen his stock go down recently, but he would still be a very good option for the Cavaliers, to back up Darius Garland. Davison is 6-foot-3 and plays more like a shooting guard or wing, than a point guard. However, he’s very athletic, and explosive, and can hit shots from all around the court. Although, he does have some consistency issues, but Arkansas will put him to the test.

The other point guard you should be watching this weekend is Tyger Campbell from UCLA. Campbell is only 5-foot-11, but he plays with energy, and is a solid point guard. He may not get drafted this summer, but the Cavs would be wise to take a flier on him if that is the case. His UCLA Bruins are taking on another Mobley this weekend, when they travel about 15 miles to take on L.A. rivals USC.
