Recently, I was chatting with a colleague who got to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers new trade acquisition Caris LeVert when he was playing high school ball at Pickerington Central High School in the Columbus area. The excitement from my friend on what this does for a surging Cavaliers team was very apparent in our discussion. There are so many positives with this move by Cleveland.

Right now, the team is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The team stands at 33-21 and adding a player of LeVert’s abilities will only make a run to a championship even more possible.

Yes, I said championship. First, you have to make it into the playoffs and that’s one area that just got significantly stronger in making that a reality for the team. The offensive production by LeVert is excellent too.

As my friend and I swapped ideas and details on LeVert’s game, it was very apparent that he can score buckets when needed most but can also be a facilitator for the team and make sure he’s putting the team in the best position to win games.

LeVert met with the local media Tuesday and as reported by WEWS’ Camryn Justice, LeVert said this of his game.

That versatility that he spoke of is exactly what my colleague talked about too. And the idea that LeVert is returning to Ohio, will be closer to family, and is joining a team that is on a roll all make this move even more exciting. There’s been a lot of discussion of if the Cavs would make a move like this, to begin with, because it could mess up the “chemistry” of the team but so far it could lead to the team hitting on all cylinders.

We’ll find out soon enough, but the savvy veteran coming on board at this moment in time seems at least from the outside looking in as a great decision by the Cavs organization. It’s taken four years to become the new Cavaliers and not the team that used to be the LeBron James team and that just makes all these highlights on the year so far so much more rewarding as a fan.

Let’s dribble into the lane and discuss a bit more of why the deal for LeVert will be great for a Cavs team moving forward, and highlight three ways it helps the club.
