Cavs Trade Rumors: Milwaukee Bucks

Why Bucks are Interested: The Milwaukee Bucks have two difficult paths to balance. They are trying to win back-to-back titles, and they are trying to keep their future luxury tax payments from getting out of hand. They are prioritizing the former, but they aren’t ignoring the latter.

Donte DiVincenzo was a starter all of last year until he got hurt in the postseason and missed the title run. This year he is coming off of the bench, but his combination of scoring, shooting and defense make him an intriguing player on the restricted market this summer. The Bucks will be hurting if they sign him to a market deal on top of all of their other salary commitments.

Yet they don’t want to lose him for nothing, so it makes sense to trade him now and diversify their salary sheet in different ways. This deal does just that; they get a better shooter in Cedi Osman to take DiVincenzo’s place on the wing, and Lamar Stevens replaces PJ Tucker’s role from last season. They also pick up the lucrative 2022 Houston second-round pick, another way to either upgrade or add a low-cost piece in the draft.

Would Cavs say yes? This might be the best deal of the four for Cleveland, and it’s also the one they’re most likely to say yes to. DiVincenzo would instantly check multiple boxes for the Cavs, a player comfortable off-ball, with plenty of on-ball playmaking chops, who can defend opposing guards. He is nowhere near the scoring threat that Collin Sexton is, but he makes up most of that ground on defense and rebounding. He’s certainly a much better backcourt fit with Darius Garland.

Osman is having a great bounce-back season, but he isn’t a long-term solution to any question the Cavs are asking. DiVincenzo could be, not only helping them down the stretch this season but giving them a future starter or Sixth Man down the road. He is up for a new contract this summer, but he would likely cost significantly less than Sexton. George Hill, included for salary purposes, would also give the Cavs a reliable backup point guard for the rest of this year and next.

Verdict: Absolutely yes
