Evan Fournier would be intriguing Cavs trade target, but there’s a lot to it

What a Cavs-Knicks Fournier deal could look like
Prior to this season, after Fournier was acquired via trade for two second-round picks from the Orlando Magic by the Boston Celtics at the 2021 deadline, he signed a four-year, $73 million deal with New York.
As we touched on, Fournier has been decent with the Knicks, but per Fischer’s report, New York has made Burks and Fournier available and is looking to free up minutes for Cam Reddish, who they recently acquired from the Atlanta Hawks via trade.
So what’s a potential Fournier deal between Cleveland and New York, then?
Considering that the Knicks have made a number of veterans available, and with Fournier having three years remaining after this season, the expiring deal of Rubio in an essentially salary-matching deal seems reasonable with Cleveland’s 2022 second-rounder via the San Antonio Spurs attached.
With the Spurs being a very young club that’s set for a first-rounder in the lottery in the 2022 NBA Draft, along with Rubio’s deal coming off the books in this scenario following the season, this deal seems reasonable. It’s uncertain if Fournier is realistically in the cards long term for New York, particularly after Reddish was recently acquired to that point.
Along with that, while he’s a quality player and impact shooter that’s been a long time starter, Fournier was acquired by Boston for two second-rounders last deadline when he was expiring, so Cleveland shipping out one second in this hypothetical would appear to be feasible.
From there then, we’ll examine how Fournier could help the Cavaliers, but also weigh in about how there’s a lot to consider in this scenario.
