At the end of the day…..

Overall, if you weren’t a basketball fan and read this article, you’d probably be sending my editors an email, asking why I’m even comparing these two. Numbers-wise, Robinson and Duncan have the edge over the Cavaliers duo in nearly ever category. However, at this point, we have to ask, can “Tower City” be better overall than the “Twin Towers” at the end of their careers? My answer is yes.

I don’t want to keep harping on how much the game is played, because I’m fairly certain that if Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley were playing in the late 90’s, early 2000’s, they would both average over five blocks per game. That brings me to my point that Mobley is the best overall defender out of the four players, though.

He’s athletic, long, can block shots, contest shots, and create turnovers. Robinson and Duncan a lot of times, would let the game come to them. In today’s age, you just can’t do that. You have to be proactive, and go out looking to force turnovers. Having the luxury of two elite rim protectors behind you is certainly a plus.

On the offensive side of the ball, Jarrett Allen has a chance to be a lot like Robinson at the end of his career. He’s improving his post play every game, his range is extending, and of course, he’s the ultimate rim protector for a great team. With Mobley, the question gets tougher.

I truly believe Evan Mobley can be one of the best players in the NBA by the beginning of next season. He’s shooting more, taking more threes, and earning trips to the foul line, where, let’s be honest, he does need to improve. Defensively, Mobley is already one of the best defenders in the NBA, so I think the goal for him would be the Defensive Player of the Year Award in a year or two. He’s that good.

It’s always difficult to compare players from different eras, considering that the NBA changes nearly every year. That said, just by watching Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen on the floor together, it sort of reminds you of David Robinson and Tim Duncan. All four of the players mentioned in this article are already great players, and if they aren’t yet, in Cleveland’s case, I expect them to be soon.

Offensively, it’s likely that the Cavaliers duo will never get near them in terms of stats. Defensively, on the other hand, the Cavs have the upper hand right now, and for the foreseeable future.

There is a new tower duo in the NBA, and it’s our very own Tower City.
