Should Cavs consider this trade with PHI proposed by The Sixer Sense?
By Dan Gilinsky
The Verdict: The Cavs pass on this hypothetical trade with the Sixers, from a financial and chemistry perspective
Taking everything into account here, it’s pretty clear to me that while Harris is a proven scorer that could play at either forward spot in a key scoring role, and Milton is a nice piece, the Cavaliers should look elsewhere in potential deals.
Simply put, while I understand Love (33) is not the player he once was, and Sexton won’t be playing the rest of this season, Harris (29) is not a player that has lived up to his contract with Philly, either. And he’s set to make $37.6 and $39.3 million the next two seasons, which is leading to Philly and president of basketball ops Daryl Morey shopping him around; he wasn’t a Morey guy, anyhow.
Even with him being a good player that can score it in a number of ways, he has been streaky from three, and does Harris, chemistry-wise, mesh well with Cleveland? I’m not sure of that, and the future compensation in this case, even if draft picks would be included as a sweetener, wouldn’t make the Cavaliers more likely to consider this, in my opinion; one has to factor in Darius Garland and potentially Isaac Okoro extensions to come later as well.
Additionally, from there, though he’ll be coming off the injury, Sexton is a player that I believe still can definitely be a long term fit with the Cavs, especially with the other guys around him looking onward such as Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Markkanen and others.
I do still believe the Cavs should try to keep Collin (23) around, to that point, and is Milton (25) a player that Cleveland might want to give a new deal this coming offseason or following 2022-23, when his contract is up? I have no clue on that.
I do get where Johnson/The Sixer Sense might be getting at here, but I don’t see this as a realistic option for the Wine and Gold. Love is seemingly a crucial locker room presence for the young guys, too, and his teammates seem to love Sexton.
