One stud and one dud for Cavs in loss to Grizzlies on Tuesday
Cavs dud: Veteran wisdom
There are a couple of players that had bad games last night. However, I think the biggest thing we can take away from Tuesday’s game, is that the Cavs just aren’t a veteran-laden team. That basically means that down the stretch last night in a tight game, they didn’t have a go-to guy.
Yes, you could point out Darius Garland, who has been amazing this season. However, last night he did notch a double-double with 27 points and 10 assists. With that being said, he shot 9-of-26 from the field, so he was not very efficient. Allen and Mobley are guys that you can look for on the offensive end, but when it gets down to the last couple minutes or seconds of any game, the ball is usually in a primary or at least secondary ball-handler’s hand.
Overall, it was an impressive outing for the Cavaliers. There is no doubt that was a winnable game, and they will be able to look back on it knowing if they played better down the stretch, and hit more free throws, they are more than capable of winning that type of game. I have no doubt Darius Garland is a clutch player in crunch time.
However, he hasn’t had many opportunities to show that. Well, with Collin Sexton out for the remainder of the year, to go with Ricky Rubio, he will definitely get his share of late game shots as the season progresses.
