What can Baylor freshman Kendall Brown bring to the Cavs in 2022?
How Does Brown Fit With the Cavs?
I, along with most NBA writers are in agreement that the Cavs needed to add more shooting this season. They finished near the bottom of the league last year in three-point shooting. So, you may ask, why would the Cavs take a non-shooter like Brown, even if he falls? While I agree it would be a tough fit for the young man, he could also take the defense to the next level.
Hopefully, and I mean that, the Cavs will have Collin Sexton back next year to handle some of the scoring load. On top of that Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley will have a full season of playing together under their belt. Brown would come into the team and be asked to do the same thing he is asked to do this year on Baylor: play with energy, neutralize opposing stars, and run the floor. It’s not surprising to see that Brown has some of the best hops in college basketball.
While I’ve really enjoyed watching Brown and Baylor this season, I just don’t think it’s a great fit for the Cavs. Unless they were to be picking in the 20’s and Brown fell to them, I would think the Cavalier front office would want to look elsewhere. Guys like Johnny Davis and Bennedict Mathurin would bring more shooting to a roster that needs it.
Brown is a great player, and I think he will be one of the best defenders in the NBA at some point during his career. However, with how Koby Altman has built this team, I doubt he would want to bring in Brown, unless, like I said, he were to fall to them in the late 20’s.
Watch Brown This Weekend
What: (1) Baylor at (8) Iowa State

What to Watch For: The Baylor Bears have been the most impressive team this season, by a long shot. However, this will be their first true Big 12 game of the year, and it’s away from home against an undefeated Iowa State team. Personally, I think the Bears will cake-walk by the Cyclones.
Make sure you take a look at how Brown sets screens, and moves without the ball. One of the more impressive traits he has is that he moved incredibly well without the ball. Also look out for him when Baylor gets on a fast break, as he can jump out of the gym. It’s not a guarantee that Brown will shoot the ball outside of 15 feet, but if he does make sure to check out his form. There’s enough there to believe that he can develop a semi-consistent three-point shot.
Overall though, this is one of the better games of the young season, so we’ll be able to see how good of a player Brown really is on Saturday afternoon.
