#3: Rubio’s steadying presence and production for the Cavs

A third reason for Cavs fans to be thankful this go-round has been Rubio’s steadying presence and production for the Wine and Gold.

Coming into the season, I thought Rubio as a trade acquisition would definitely make his presence felt, and would help ease the burden on Garland, and to some extent, Collin Sexton; the injury to Collin was again, crushing, unfortunately.

Regardless, while the shot will likely have its ups and downs, as Rubio has been much more effective as a passer throughout his career, he has exceeded expectations as a scorer so far for Cleveland.

Injuries aside, he’s averaged 15.1 points, knocked in 36.3 percent from three, and has had 6.2 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. Plus, his craftiness has aided the Cavs’ offense when he’s been out there, mostly as a supersub-type player.

In addition, Rubio’s team defensive impact has made a difference often for the Cavaliers, and to reiterate, the 31-year-old’s steadying presence and his leadership, seemingly both on and off the floor, has been invaluable for a Cavs team that is still largely young.

I’m not certain if he’ll end up sticking around, as Rubio is an expiring player, but if the Cavs can stick in the thick of things, I’d prefer that he sticks through the deadline, really. And perhaps next offseason, maybe he and the team could have mutual interest in a fairly reasonable deal; we’ll have to see there.

Okay, so, while there are other reasons for fans to be thankful, such as Allen’s very strong play so far, and Cleveland’s team-first style and toughness, these three things we highlighted here are the ones that clearly stood out to me.

Hopefully this team can continue to get healthier, though, to help get back on track.
