How many times in the last three years have we been able to legitimately give the Cleveland Cavaliers an A for their efforts over the course of the season? The answer is obviously not very often. But the tide has turned in Cleveland for our young, yet improving squad. Winners of four in a row, they now are 7-4 and are the talk of the NBA inner circles. Other teams better be ready to rumble for a full 48 minutes because these Cavs are ready to win.
Let’s take a look at the different parts of the team and give each player a grade for this past week. If this were honor roll week, like we have at school, many of our Cavalier players would be at the time of the list.
Collin Sexton Grade: B
Collin Sexton had a decent week on the court but got some very bad news early this week when he tore his meniscus in his knee and will be sidelined for seemingly at least two months. Ouch. He had been averaging 16 points on the season, not putting up huge numbers, but was helping the team in stretches.
Unfortunately, when he was inserted at the end of the Cavaliers’ thrilling Toronto Raptors game where they won in the last seconds, Sexton was part of the reason they almost didn’t win. Twice in the closing moments he thought he was playing middle school basketball and took on his opponents one-on-three or four and almost lost the ball twice because of his selfish playing style.
The biggest difference in this year’s Cavalier team is that a player like Sexton isn’t as important to the team winning games. Sexton’s minutes are down as is his points per game too and yet the team is still winning.
