Cavs: The pros and cons of trading for Brandon Ingram
Cavs And Pelicans Could Use A Shake-Up
Like I said earlier, the Cavs are off to a wonderful start, and look very promising early on. The same cannot be said for the Pelicans. After firing Stan Van Gundy during the offseason, former number one overall pick Zion Williamson showed up for the season injured, and out of shape. He is out for the next couple of weeks.
It doesn’t help the situation that New Orleans has started the season 1-9, and things don’t seem to be getting better any time soon. Before being slowed by an injury this season, Ingram was averaging 25 points per game, the highest mark of his NBA career. Not only is he a walking bucket, but he’s also shooting 47% from the field and 46% from deep. He could bring a new skill set to the Cavaliers.
If the Cavs were to pull the trigger on a trade, Ingram would bring a lot of things to the Cavaliers’ offense. As I stated earlier, he’s a great scorer, and is having the best season of his career, while also shooting well above average. On top of that, Ingram’s catch and shoot ability would help space out the offense. Additionally, Darius Garland and Collin Sexton are good shooters, and Ingram draws a lot of attention when he attacks the basket. On the defensive end, the Cavs would pretty much just be getting longer. However, it can’t hurt the defense to add a bigger guy to the lineup.
Finally, the biggest thing Ingram would bring with him to Cleveland is the ability to take a lot of the pressure off of guys like Darius Garland, Allen, and Sexton. With his scoring prowess, the Cavs’ offense would be taken to another level. However, not everything is as black and white as that. There are multiple ways that a trade could end up haunting the Cavs later in the season. Even so, there are a number of positives found in a potential trade.
