Cavs: The three stars from their five-game road trip
The Cavs second star: Darius Garland
When the Cavaliers chose Darius Garland fifth overall in 2019, some across the league saw it as an interesting move. Garland was a prospect coming off a meniscus injury that cut his lone collegiate season at Vanderbilt short, and his fit alongside Collin Sexton was often questioned.
However, Garland has done a fine job of developing his game since coming to Cleveland and showed what he could bring to the Wine and Gold this most previous road trip.
Overall, the third-year guard averaged 14 points per game and dished out 6.6 assists per game during the five-game stretch. The 4.8 turnovers per game was a bit concerning, but it was nice to see Garland average 1.6 steals per game, which shows he is becoming more active in the team sense on the defensive end of the floor.
Though Garland was just 6-of-14 shooting the ball against the Lakers, he was still looking to make plays for his teammates all night, as he dished out 11 assists and still managed to hit a few timely shots.
If Garland can cut down on the turnovers and keep those assist numbers steady, he could indeed be the Cavaliers star point guard for years to come.
Speaking of a player that is going to make an impact on the Cavaliers for years to come…
