Cavs: Allen’s defense has been huge, too, and his effort has been tremendous

Allen’s activity on the defensive end has also been awesome; him and Mobley look to be a heck of a defensive duo, and while the block splits haven’t been there for Allen, with Mobley some to do with it, Allen’s hustle and feel have made a difference.

He’s had a solid 1.4 steals per-36 minutes, and his anticipation, in the back line for Cleveland has made it difficult for opponents to get looks at the rim, and on the interior in 3-2 zone, he’s been meshed well combined with Mobley on the perimeter.

Objectively, Allen and Cleveland’s defense need to improve their defensive rebounding possession-to-possession, but the initial defense in the last three games has often been far better than the opener. Turnovers and second chance points killed the Cavs versus the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, on that note.

But overall, to begin this season, circling back, Allen’s play has been, frankly, at a different level on both ends of the floor, and it’s helped set the tone for the Cavaliers, as detailed by Kelsey Russo of The Athletic (subscription required). He’ll come back down to Earth some, sure; it’s been a promising start, though, and as time progresses, many might look back on that offseason new deal as being a very smart move.

I’m sold, and his leadership is shining through, too, it seems. Keep it up, Fro!
