Cavs: Allen’s finishing, cutter and touch have been so on-point

I acknowledge that Allen, in his minutes, is not going to be a player that’s going to be a key offensive scoring option, but as we’ve noted, his timing to receive passes as a cutter/rim running and finishing has been at a different level to begin this season.

Currently, among qualified players, he’s leading the league in field goal percentage at the aforementioned 83.8. And while we know that won’t hold as get further into the year, his power/finishing with authority, even in traffic, and terrific footwork has led to great closes to possessions for Cleveland, and he just looks far more confident to me in that realm.

It’s not as if last season, he wasn’t finishing well in his time with Cleveland, to get that out there.

However, he looks to be playing stronger possession-to-possession, in my opinion, on the offensive end, and despite it being early, he looks to be getting more comfortable playing alongside Evan Mobley. The same goes for him in relation to Collin Sexton, who has shown continued playmaking progression so far, and Ricky Rubio.

Simply put, Allen’s looked to be so well composed thus far this season, and his combination of power in both settled situations and in transition, positioning to finish plays, and touch has been tremendous. It’s not something we saw nearly at this level last season, and it’s been very, very encouraging to me, and initiating/playing through contact will be crucial for him from here; this start there has been great.

Let’s not gloss over the defensive work, either, though.
