Cavs: 3 bold predictions for Darius Garland’s 2021-22 season

Earlier this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted their annual Media Day, signaling the beginning of the preseason. With several members of the media attending both in person and virtually, several of the Cavs were front and center for some Q&A sessions with the press.

Among those players was someone that many NBA executives predict will reportedly have a breakout year this upcoming season. Amidst trade rumors, a player that has been looked at as one of the nearly untouchable members of this Cavs roster, per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com (subscription required), someone that will undoubtedly step up as a leader of this team.

“Who is this player?” you might ask yourself. That player is reportedly none other than Darius Garland, with the other nearly untouchable player being Evan Mobley, per Fedor.

When it comes to this young core of talent the Cavs have amassed throughout the last few years, Garland is a key factor. During his Media Day availability, Garland stressed that his and the team’s focus is primarily on winning more games, and essentially with the hopes of getting the Cavaliers a chance to compete in the postseason, as seemingly pointed out by Evan Dammarell of Fear The Sword on the “Locked On Cavs” podcast. Clearly, winning more games is in that realm, and the team wants to level up.

In relation to Garland himself, though, I do believe he is due for a big season. As the NBA preseason then comes to a close, us Cavs fans should have a general idea of the team heading into this year, and Garland is one of the focal points.

Garland is a player that many, both internally within the organization, as well as externally have looked to as a leader for this young Cleveland squad, it appears. Going into his third year, Darius Garland seems to be on track to improve his game in several aspects.
