Cavs: Love can help Mobley in his progression as a perimeter shooter

Simply put, Love’s shooting, when he’s been healthy, and I know that’s the key, has been a boost for Cleveland. Throughout his time with the Cavs, again health-depending, he’s been one of the club’s best catch-and-shoot threats.

In the 2019-20 campaign, when he was mostly healthy, he was making an impact in that way pretty regularly, and knocked in 37.4 percent of a career-high 7.0 three-point attempts per contest. He was also clearly a crucial floor spacing presence, spot-up and movement shooter for the Cavs in LeBron James’ second stint with the club, too.

So to me, with the success he’s had from outside, he could definitely help Mobley in his progression as a perimeter shooter.

Mobley has shown flashes in his high school/AAU days in that regard, and although he hit only 30.0 percent from three on 40 attempts in his lone collegiate season at USC, the capability is there for him to be a real stretch big presence.

The shot is workable I believe, and with his touch in other areas, such as with floaters/push shots, and with mid-range looks and some turnarounds, I do buy Mobley’s potential there.

Now for next season, it’s tough to say how much we’ll see it materialize, but help from Love, who has proven to be one of the game’s best stretch bigs when healthy, and has been a five-time All-Star, could really pay dividends for Mobley. That’s even with Mobley likely set for his share of elbow touches, as an aside.

Maybe as the season goes on, we’ll see Mobley’s confidence grow from deep as a catch-and-shoot player, and perhaps some as a pick-and-pop presence, playing off potential guidance from Love to help the USC product’s perimeter stroke.

Alright, so secondly, we’ll suggest how Love could aid Markkanen’s game.
