Availability matters

While I may not like Sexton’s fit with the current roster, there’s one thing he has been since he came to Cleveland. A rock. Sexton played in every single game during his first two years in Cleveland, which is something that a lot of young players cannot say. He did miss games this past season for different reasons, but he’s still been on the court a hell of a lot more than Robinson and Hunter.

During his rookie season alone in the NBA, Sexton played in all 82 games. In two seasons for the Hawks, Hunter has played in 86. While you have to take the pandemic season into consideration, it’s still a lot less game time than the Young Bull. This past season he missed 49 regular season games, and the majority of the playoffs after it was known he would have knee surgery.

As for Robinson? Not only is he inconsistent on the court, but he’s another player who missed the majority of last season because of injuries. You can talk all you want about his stellar rim-protecting, and his tremendous upside. However, the fact is he’s not available as often as Sexton and he’s just simply not as good.

From there, because Robinson is a big, and not as polished on the offensive end, he averages less than ten points per game. Which means he makes his impact on defense. Over his career he’s averaged 2.1 blocks per game, which is impressive. That said, his rebounding numbers aren’t elite, especially for a guy who’s 7-feet tall. In a couple of years could Robinson be one of the premier defenders in the league? Of course.

But, right now he’s just not as talented as Sexton.
