Cavs: 3 players not named Ben Simmons to inquire about – CJ McCollum

McCollum is one of the better shooters in the NBA. He also plays with one of the best players in the NBA in point guard Damian Lillard. Lillard has shown signs that he is unhappy about the situation in Portland, and many people have taken that as an indication he wants to be traded. However, a better idea for the Blazers might be to try and get Lillard some new players to surround him.

Kevin Love is clearly not the player that he used to be, but he’s still a double-digit scorer. Dylan Windler hasn’t seen the floor much since he was drafted, but he still has a lot of potential. If you then also sent a top-ten protected first-round pick, you lower your risk of missing out on a star. This is another trade that would be a bit tough to pull off. While that is true, Koby Altman should at least reach out to the Blazers and try a find the right deal to land McCollum.

On top of all of that McCollum is 29 years old, and has been in the league since 2013. He would be a great mentor for players like Sexton, Garland, Okoro, and even Mobley. He’s been to the playoffs, and he’s won in the playoffs, so having him around would help the team immensely. He would be a veteran leader on the team and hopefully rub off on all of the young guys. On top of that, I think a back-court with Ricky Rubio and McCollum would be incredibly fun to watch.

McCollum is an Ohio person as well. He went to Glenoak High School in Canton, Ohio. He’s also a big Browns fan, as he makes evident on his social media profiles. A lot of players would look at being traded to Cleveland as a bad thing. However, I think McCollum would be very happy to come home and play for the Cavs.
