Cavs: Identifying the team’s most likely award winner
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team with deserved optimism about the future, with a talented young core of players expected to improve this season and beyond. Even so, the Cavs will most likely not be a playoff team next season.
One implication of that reality is that individual awards will be difficult to come by. The accolades awarded to standout players generally take winning into account, and a low-profile, small-market team such as the Cavs needs to be considered a winning team for most of its players to have a shot at individual awards.
The Cavs should expect awards down the line, but next season they will be hard to come by
The MVP and All-NBA awards are most likely out of reach, and as solid as Jarrett Allen is no player on this team is going to win Defensive Player of the Year next season. Even so, there are a few awards that could be in reach for members of this roster.
Who on the team has the best shot at winning an individual award next season? To win individual awards a player needs opportunity, success and some amount of luck. While no Cavs player should be favored to win an award, these three have at least an outside chance at bringing home some hardware.
