Ben Simmons to Cavs would be a fresh start for both

Cavs: The potential Simmons trade proposal

With all the chatter in the past on Cavs guard Collin Sexton seemingly being trade bait maybe this is the deal that the Cavs have been waiting for. I’ve not been the biggest fan of both Sexton and other Cavaliers guard Darius Garland working together as a backcourt duo for years to come.

Sexton can be a scorer more than anything, and his shooting has improved over the last several seasons. He’s a decent defender but he’s also improved on his assists offensively. And the 76ers with their big man Joel Embiid playing the post both he and Sexton would pair up nicely.

For the Cavs I’d also throw in another talented player like Isaac Okoro, with Kevin Love for salary matching, it’d seem, and with a package of a number of future picks, albeit protected regarding firsts, even multiple.

I love Okoro and his upside but in order to get Simmons, the Cavs are going to have to give up some key talent. The Cavaliers also would have to give a first-round pick or two over the next couple of years, to the last point, along with feasibly multiple 2s.

Of course, that’d be a very steep price and seems a bit left of center, especially with Simmons’ recent struggles.

But what the Cavs are gaining in Simmons overall would be a very talented, All-Star-caliber player.
