I know a lot of the NBA world is getting excited about seeing some of the 2021 NBA Draftees play. Jalen Green should be an instant highlight reel for the Houston Rockets. Cade Cunningham and a young Detroit Pistons roster could be one of the biggest surprises in the league this year. After drafting Evan Mobley with the third overall pick, Cleveland Cavaliers fans will be able to see one of the most exciting young frontcourt duos in the NBA, in the form of Jarrett Allen and Mobley.
But, the 2022 NBA Draft will be coming up sooner than you think, and it’s never too early to start looking at some of the prospects the Cavs need to keep their eye on heading into next summer’s draft.
What types of players should the Cavs be targeting in the 2022 NBA Draft?
When the Cavaliers traded Larry Nance Jr. to the Portland Trail Blazers, and got Lauri Markkanen in return from the Chicago Bulls, the number of wing players on the roster is dwindling. Markkanen is sort of a wing, but he’s more of a floor spacing big man.
With Nance Jr. gone, the only notable wing players on the team are Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens, and maybe Dean Wade, who is a big, really. Not to mention the frontcourt players are all extremely young as well. As I stated yesterday, the Cavs need some wing help, and should look to bring in LiAngelo Ball, even for a workout.
I’m not saying the Cavaliers need to solely focus their attention on wings, but I would hope that they will be doing most of their scouting on those types of players.
So, while yes, it is almost 300 days away, let’s take a look ahead at some of the prospects the Cavs should have their eyes on heading into the 2022 NBA Draft.
