Cavs: FA James Ennis III is a veteran wing worth consideration
By Dan Gilinsky
Ennis would bring added shooting/a transition threat to the Cavs
For his career, he’s had 6.7 points per game in an average of 20.5 minutes. That said, while he’s not been a key scoring presence, let alone regular starter, he has been a solid wing defender, and has been a competent catch-and-shoot player. Those things should have appeal to the Cavs.
Ennis is at least competent from three, and even with some streakiness to his shooting, he’s hit a respectable 36.0 percent from deep over the course of seven seasons. In realistically a rotational role in spurts/stretches at the 3 and/or at times at the 2, he could be a viable catch-and-shoot target off ball-swings/kickouts, and could bring some energy in that realm.
He’s not the pure shooter of Mathews, or Langston Galloway (who is a guard, conversely), but Ennis is a more than capable catch-and-shoot threat that at times has flashed some off-movement ability. For his career, he has knocked in 39.4 percent of his corner triple attempts on a frequency of 37.5 percent, too.
And a viable deep threat off-the-catch, with how Ennis can at times get to the rack via straight-line drives and in transition, could be valuable for Cleveland’s rotation.
Now, we shouldn’t discount the defensive end with him, either.
