This offseason has not been one with a ton of splash necessarily for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they did execute a sign-and-trade for former restricted free agent and Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen. That did notably include sending out Larry Nance Jr. to the Portland Trail Blazers, although the spacing and scoring element with Markkanen could pack quite the punch for Cleveland in coming years.

From there, the Cavs signed unrestricted free agent Tacko Fall to a training camp deal on Tuesday night, which could maybe be a depth 5 for Cleveland to keep around. Fall, who was a two-way contributor for the Boston Celtics in his first two seasons, didn’t get much playing time in the NBA though.

On a positive note, the 7-foot-5 big could have a chance to be on the Cavaliers roster at the season’s outset/maybe longer, theoretically. That’s because of his screening/rolling presence, and with how he had 5.3 blocks per-36 minutes in minutes here and there for Boston last season, in which he had 19 appearances.

Fall’s deal amounts to more so a flyer though, so we’ll have to see what he provides in preseason.

But it is still evident that Cleveland could still be on the market for feasibly low-cost wing help, and unrestricted players such as Garrison Mathews, Justin Jackson, and a flyer such as Jaylen Hoard could be potential players the Cavs could pursue.

One that comes to mind, from more so a veteran standpoint, however, is James Ennis III, who, while he has bounced around, could fill a role well for Cleveland’s bench and is a quality defender and capable shooter.

Ennis is a veteran wing worth consideration for the Cavs.

Ennis is a player that again has bounced around in his career, and was traded to the Orlando Magic by the Philadelphia 76ers near the 2020 deadline in exchange for a second-round pick. He would then re-sign with Orlando via one-year, $3.3 million deal.

So what’s the key appeal with Ennis? We’ll get more into that next.
