Cavs: Where does Collin Sexton rank among the NBA’s shooting guards? Tier 1 – MVP Candidates

James Harden

It’s difficult to place James Harden positionally, as he’s listed as a shooting guard, plays with the ball in his hands like a point guard, and often guards larger forwards. He has classically been listed at the 2 so that’s where we will slot him in for our list.

Harden is a former MVP winner (2017-18) and six times he has finished in the top 5. Harden has led the league in points-per-game three times and totals points scored four times, and is already 38th in points scored in NBA history. Filtering the list down to shooting guards, Harden is seventh and closing in fast on Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen.

Still at the top of his game at 31, Harden is also a prolific passer, ranking in the top 10 in assists per game for seven straight seasons. To his credit, Harden has improved from cringe-worthy to survivable on defense. While he may lose a touch of his impact in the postseason, he’s still an All-NBA player and perennial MVP candidate, and clearly the best shooting guard in the league.
