If I told you that the third pick in the NBA Draft has won the NBA Rookie of the Year award two of the last three seasons, then you certainly can see why I’m very hopeful for Evan Mobley. The former USC big man was the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ No. 3 draft pick, and has already expressed his personal interest in shooting for the award this season.

The most recent odds of winning the rookie award, per WynnBet, are certainly a plus for Mobley, as is the fact that if he can help resurrect this Cavs team from the depths of despair, where they have been since one Lebron James left for the sunny skies of California, that type of turnaround will be a big plus in securing the award.

Evan Mobley is gunning for the Rookie of the Year award. Can the Cavs’ new big man bring it home?

There have only been two former Cavs to win the award, with James winning in 2004 and Kyrie Irving in 2012.

Mobley will have competition this season as Cade Cunningham was drafted No. 1 by the Detroit Pistons and Jalen Green went No. 2 to the Houston Rockets. The current odds according to WynnBet are +700 for Mobley. Cunningham is at +210 and Green at +240. Jalen Suggs, the newly drafted No. 5 pick from the Orlando Magic has recently snuck ahead of Mobley at +600.

So, as they say, “let the games begin”. I’ll put my money on our new 7-foot center/forward with the 7’4 wingspan. I believe Mobley will get the start from the get-go when the regular season begins, and though there will be a huge learning curve along the way Mobley’s undeniable talents, from his excellent defensive footwork and shiftiness to his knack for blocking shots, will keep him in the running all season.
