#2: Wing depth/insurance for the Cavs and him being a fairly seamless fit

Secondly, Mykhailiuk would provide solid wing insurance to have behind Isaac Okoro, and 2 depth to some degree behind Collin Sexton.

I’d ideally like for Dylan Windler to be able to fulfill that, but he’s not been able to stay healthy through two seasons with the Cavs, and although he showed flashes while being an impact team defender, Mykhailiuk could be Windler insurance, if you will.

Along with that, with Cedi Osman‘s inconsistencies offensively the past two seasons, in regards to scoring, Mykhailiuk could potentially provide more of a game-to-game shooting impact, in my opinion. His off-ball/cutting feel could enable him to mesh as a fairly seamless fit alongside a number of Cavs, too.

That’s not nearly the case for Osman, by comparison, as he did hit 38.3 percent from three in 2019-20, but there would be too many times where he’d seemingly disappear offensively. And last season, the shooting wells off for him, leading to a 30.6 percent hit rate from three.

Him not being a regular starter didn’t help, but it’s not as if Osman didn’t have ample opportunities to get back on track. I do give him credit for his playmaking work (a decent 4.1 assists per-36 minutes), as an aside; the shooting cratered, though.

So, with the uncertainties with Windler and Osman, if Mykhailiuk were signed by the Cavaliers and they became expendable, so be it; Osman was previously mentioned in trade rumors leading into the past deadline, too.

Moreover, given the reasons stated, it’s evident Mykhailiuk would be a nice signing for seemingly a low-cost deal via part of the MLE for say, two years, and $4-5 million. Keep an eye out for that possibility, Cavs fans.
