Cavs: 2 key sellers for potential FA target Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
By Dan Gilinsky
#1: Mykhailiuk would provide the Cavs with a shooting lift
The first key seller for the 6-foot-7 Mykhailiuk is that he’d bring a shooting lift to the Cavs, albeit off the bench. Mykhailiuk is not a player that’s going to create his own offense often, but he is a quality movement shooter, and could aid Cleveland from a floor spacing standpoint in that way.
His 33.4 percent three-point hit rate last season combined with the Detroit Pistons first and then with the Thunder post-mid-season trade is not something I’m that hung up on, either.
For his three-year career so far, he’s hit a respectable 36.2 percent from deep on 4.2 attempts per contest, and in 2019-20 with Detroit, he knocked down 40.4 percent from three on 5.1 attempts per outing.
Mykhailiuk could aid Cleveland as a rotational shooter, I’d think in spurts/stretches appearing at the 2 and 3 positions, and could make his presence felt coming off screens and firing, to go along with him being a polished spot-up threat.
Now, as we noted, I wouldn’t anticipate the 24-year-old wing to be producing that much on-ball, but Mykhailiuk did show flashes as a pull-up shooter in the mid-range with Detroit and OKC last season. That played into him having 10.3 points per game with the Thunder post-trade, for what it’s worth.
To drive it home though, it’s apparent to me that Svi could give the Cavs a lift off the bench as a player that could aid floor spacing, and with him being a quality off-ball mover, he could be a potential knockdown target for a number of Cavs to look for.
From there, the second key seller for Mykhailiuk as a potential Cavaliers free agency target has to do with how he’d provide some nice wing depth insurance and could mesh with a number of players.
