Cavs: 2 key sellers for potential FA target Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
By Dan Gilinsky
The Cleveland Cavaliers were not going to be making any splashes in free agency, and it’s turned out that they’ve been priced out of landing a rumored potential free agent target such as Doug McDermott, and they missed out on Reggie Bullock, among others.
That wasn’t surprising, but on the plus side, the Cavaliers did land a possible superstar down the road via the 2021 NBA Draft in Evan Mobley, and them trading for Ricky Rubio was a two thumbs up move. Both of those players will be crucial contributors, I believe.
Even with the Cavs options pretty limited in free agency from here though, they do still have the $9.5 million mid-level exception, or some of that, realistically. They will have the roughly $3.7 million bi-annual exception as well.
As far as a few potential targets from here that could be worth pursuing in relation to wing shooters, I could be on-board with Denzel Valentine, James Ennis III or Dwayne Bacon. Bacon was recently waived by the Orlando Magic, for context.
While at least two of those players could provide some of a scoring lift in bench stretches for Cleveland in Valentine and Bacon, another alternative for a team-friendly target could be Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk.
Mykhailiuk, whose qualifying offer was recently rescinded by the Oklahoma City Thunder, is predominantly an off-ball player, conversely, but he could give Cleveland a perimeter shooting lift off the bench. And for a team that was last in the NBA in three-point shooting last season, and was 28th in triple attempts per game, I don’t gloss over that.
Taking that into consideration, we’ll hit on two key sellers for Mykhailiuk as a potential Cavs target here.
Firstly, we’ll take a closer look at the shooting from him.
