3 players still available the Cavs should pursue in free agency: 2. Terence Davis

Last season the Sacramento Kings traded for Terence Davis at the trade deadline, taking a swing at a shooting guard with a sweet outside stroke. Davis, an undrafted player who went to Ole Miss, started his career in Toronto and has hit 37.7 percent of his 3-pointers and shot them at a very high volume, 10.7 attempts per 100 possessions.

Davis is also a tough defender, with a wingspan just under 6’9″ to go with his 6’4″ frame. He can check opposing guards but has the size to survive if deployed or switched on a forward. He is just 24 years old and is a great “3-and-D” option to backup Collin Sexton.

The Kings have Davis’ restricted free agent rights, but they also have a full roster and are committed to a number of other guards: De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell are all above Davis in the pecking order. They might not match on a reasonable contract sheet, or they may even revoke his qualifying offer and let him walk free in the coming days.

If the Cavs don’t find a taker for their full midlevel, they could split part of it to offer Davis a decent starting number, perhaps a 2-year $10 million offer or so. That would be a great value for a high-value role player who fits a need for this roster. If the Kings allow him to hit unrestricted free agency, then a two-year, $6.2 million deal would fit into the Bi-Annual Exception.
