2) Jarrett Allen is lacking accomplishments

Allen hasn’t won any awards in the NBA for his play or been an All-Star either. His defense can be good around the rim, but at times he has disappeared for entire games. His confidence seemed shaken at points last season. Part of the indecision last season came after he suffered a concussion late in the year. I get those injuries and your return to play can go hand-in-hand and that it certainly seemed he was affected by his injuries. Again, he’s only 23 years old and most kids that age lack confidence in many things in life. That’s part of living life.

Allen’s career stat lines have him averaging 10.7 points per game and averaging 8.3 rebounds. Those are decent numbers in the NBA but not dazzling. For comparison’s sake, the Cavs’ old school center, Brad Daugherty, the one I wrote about in my lead up to the NBA draft, averaged almost 18 points and 8.5 boards in his first four years with the Cavaliers.

So they are similar in boards but not points and that can mean something, especially when the team is looking to Allen and Mobley to be more a part of the offense going forward. Through four years of his career Allen has not had the scoring impact you need if you are going to pay him this much money.
