Cleveland Cavaliers: Ranking the 3 most valuable trade chips
The Cleveland Cavaliers are firmly in the midst of an organizational rebuild. They are on their third head coach since the departure of LeBron James to the Los Angeles Lakers doomed them to a life in the lottery, with every player but a pair of power forwards turning over in three years.
As the NBA Finals have ended and the offseason officially beginning across the league, the Cavaliers have to consider their roster. What players would be most valuable to other teams in trades? Is it worth sending out current players to bring back talent, draft capital or cap space?
The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t have a future superstar yet. Every player on the roster should be open for a trade
The Cavs don’t have a rising superstar on the roster; the New Orleans Pelicans aren’t trading Zion Williamson, for example. They also don’t have an established current star to build around, a la Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo. There aren’t any no-trade clauses on any contract a Bucks player is signed to.
That means every player on the roster should be on the table. If a team comes calling for Darius Garland, or Isaac Okoro, the Cavaliers should at least listen. If the call is for Kevin Love they should start sprinting for the fax machine.
Narrowing the scope, who are the three most valuable trade chips on the roster? Which players would net the Cavaliers the best return in a potential deal? Understanding what they have will help them plan for the offseason and maximize all of their assets. To that end we start with one of the newest additions to the team.
