Predicting the Cavs’ top catch-and-shoot threats for 2021-22: Moses Moody

Moses Moody has been a player that has been talked about a bunch on this website and if the Cavaliers want a way to fill their shooting needs through the draft, Moody has to be at the top of the list. In 27 regular season games at Arkansas, Moody averaged 17 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, shooting 37.8 percent from three on 5 attempts per game.

If drafted, his first couple seasons or so will have him in a 3-D role with the team, working mainly off-ball playing alongside our young backcourt and allowing him to improve his on-ball abilities. Comparing his shooting to the rest of Cleveland’s roster, Moody’s five threes attempted per game would rank third on the team behind Kevin Love and Cedi Osman.

His shooting percentage of 37.8 percent per game (in regular season play) would rank third on the team of all players to play at like 10 games for the team, behind Taurean Prince and Darius Garland.

Similar to the other players highlighted here, it’s likely that Moody will come off the bench for the upcoming season if selected by the Cavaliers in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Seeing how little scoring ability the bench produces, being that sixth/seventh man for the team would allow him to continue his off-ball role as a catch-and-shoot player while also having an opportunity to work on-ball as he looks to improve his handle and playmaking.

Looking at the range in where the Cavs could select Moody, anywhere from #6 onward makes the most sense for the 19-year-old wing.
