Goal #2 in Garland’s Year 3 for the Cavs: Limit turnovers

Being a young guard in the NBA, turnovers are inevitable. For Garland, the issue lies with sloppiness in some of his turnovers due to over-dribbling and passes that can be a little too flashy.

During his second season, of starting guards (starting in at least 40 games) with an assist rate of 30.0 percent or higher, Garland’s assist-to-turnover ratio ranked second to last being just 0.05 points in front of John Wall, per NBA.com.

One thing that the Cavaliers could do to limit the young guards’ turnovers is to improve the shooting around him in certain lineups. Improving the shooting around him while he is on the floor will help to limit the number of traps and doubles that teams would send his way, allowing for him to stay more composed in certain situations for the Wine and Gold.

These turnovers aren’t a huge deal though and it’s better for him to try things now so he can see what he has to clean up on.

Next. Garland's Year 2 should have Cavs fans very optimistic. dark

And being just 21 years old with 113 games under his belt, DG has plenty of time to rid of those bad habits. More experience will only help the promising primary playmaker in that regard, clearly.
