Takeaway #2: Sexton continued to prove doubters wrong and there were passing signs for the Cavs

My second takeaway from Sexton’s 2020-21 would be that he continues to prove doubters wrong and have outstanding games where he contributes offensively as well as distributing the ball. During the Cavaliers’ first meeting against the Nets, Kyrie Irving even gave Sexton his props after that one, as Evan Dammarell of Forbes and Fear The Sword then noted.

Even with Darius Garland running the point guard position now we’ve been able to have a glimpse of the two guards as they continue their growth together throughout their careers, as the two seem to have grown a strong brotherhood together while trusting each other on the offensive side of the ball.

Another example of Collin’s ability to distribute the ball comes from the second meeting against the Brooklyn Nets right after his 42-point night and the Cavs won that game 147-135. The next time they played he then scored 25 points to go along with nine assists, showcasing his ability to dominate offensively and make a difference in a big way as a passer in back-to-back games.

Additionally, although Garland’s absence most of the games played into it admittedly, Sexton did distribute the ball pretty well in games to close the season, and on the year, in mostly a secondary playmaking role, had 4.4 assists per outing.
