Cleveland Cavaliers: 2 realistic expectations for Taurean Prince for ’21-22
By Dan Gilinsky
Realistic expectation #1 for Prince: He’s a very capable rotational shooter/shot creator for the Cavs
With Cleveland, a good amount of the time when he was available, Prince was a very capable rotational catch-and-shoot threat and/or on-ball shot creator.
Although he would eventually be sidelined/essentially the team/seemingly he decided they should be proactive in him getting that ankle surgery, he did appear to be comfortable. He was in quite the shooting groove, too, and was providing his share of pop in the scoring sense off the bench.
In his last 10 games active of this season, after the 10-game absence because of the shoulder issue, even with two feel-out games initially, he had 12.3 points in 23.8 minutes per outing.
Most notably, he had knocked in 42.6 percent of his 4.5 triple attempts per game in that stretch, and he looked to be particularly in-rhythm on both catch-and-shoots from ball-swings from guys such as Darius Garland and Collin Sexton.
Along with that, as Prince had been showing earlier on post-trade, he was getting to his spots via step backs and side steps, and had at times been making things happen in the pick-and-roll. That was some for himself and also in hitting rollers here and there such as Jarrett Allen, and/or seemed to have some nice chemistry developing with Dean Wade, for example.
So, if he is able to get progressively healthy heading into next season, I’d expect it’s reasonable to expect him to be a very capable rotational shooter/shot creator for Cleveland in his minutes.
That said, in relation to realistic expectation #2 for him for next season, it would seem apparent that Prince could eventually be dealt, though.
