Potential Cavs lineup #3 involving Green: Garland-Sexton-Green-Okoro-Allen

This lineup would feature the Cleveland Cavaliers’ supposed young core together.

This rebuild currently has been about the Garland/Sexton backcourt to see if it’s something that will work long term. And there has been encouraging signs in regards to that this season, but the Cavs need to continue to put good wing defenders around them for stretches of contests, which is largely why they drafted Isaac Okoro fifth overall last November.

Jalen Green isn’t the best player defensively and the Cavs would be taking another guard in his case, although Green isn’t the same type of player Garland/Sexton are and is taller at 6-foot-6.

Still a year ago when the Charlotte Hornets already were seemingly committed to Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham, that didn’t stop them from taking the best talent available in LaMelo Ball, whose quickly established himself as one of the league’s brightest young stars. That was before having gone down due to injury.

With that sort of thing in mind, Jalen Green again isn’t the greatest fit defensively, but fills a huge whole with the Cavs needing more scoring on the perimeter for stretches. Green would take a big load off Sexton as someone else that can score in bunches, if Cleveland were to select him in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Again Okoro should be able to play the four in certain lineups, and while still raw offensively the hope is he builds off a second half where he’s looked more comfortable offensively.

Allen was traded for because the front office seemingly believed at his age (he turns 23 next week) he’d fit right in with a core like this. And as noted, he’s a legitimate shot blocker and is a vertical spacing/lob threat as he’s shown that doesn’t need a ton of touches to have a considerable impact.

In a lineup like this the Cavs would have enough scoring with the likes of Garland, Sexton and Green. You can also say they’d have guys with the likes of Sexton, Green and Allen who are great athletes who can run the floor as well.

Moreover, this lineup would feature the young core the Cavaliers are trying to build around and one that the Cavs would likely want to see grow together and make work.
