Cavs: 2 realistic expectations for Quinn Cook during 10-day stint
By Dan Gilinsky
#2: Cook hits some pull-ups, and is a viable catch-and-shoot threat for the Cavs
Cook is not a guy that’s going to be a key on-ball threat for the Cavs in his 10-day stint, one wouldn’t assume, but he is a capable shooter off-the-bounce at times via push shots and pull-ups.
And Cook has pretty solid feel as a pull-up threat in the mid-range in pick-and-roll situations, and he has a decent floater. I’d imagine we’ll see those sort of things here and there in spurts off the bench for Cleveland amid this 10-day stint.
Additionally, Cook should be a viable perimeter shooter I would think, more so off-the-catch via spot-ups coming off of some ball-swings to him, which should aid Cleveland to some extent when he’s in there.
Even while the star-studded teams did obviously play into it, and I clearly acknowledge that, Cook did still hit a fairly healthy 36.5 percent of his attempts from three, albeit on low volume, with LA in 2019-20.
But he did also hit 41.8 percent of his triple attempts in his time with Golden State, too. And though they were very brief stints with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans first in 2016-17, Cook has, overall, hit 40.7 percent of his three-point attempts for his career in 181 appearances.
So in instances when Cook is in for Cleveland, he should be a viable perimeter shooter/help with floor spacing.
Although Kevin Love barely having played this season (right calf strain/reaggravation) has factored into it, along with other factors, Cleveland is last in the NBA in three-point makes and attempts per game. So perhaps Cook can aid the Wine and Gold as a spot-up threat, for one, in spurts.
We’ll have to see if Cook will be signed to a second 10-day stint following this one, ultimately.
And in relation to potential trades, such as those involving Andre Drummond, for instance, along with even Cedi Osman, Taurean Prince and/or JaVale McGee, who’ve been mentioned in trade rumors and are seemingly available, as opposed to Larry Nance Jr., I’m uncertain on Cook.
Him being set to be signed via 10-day deal soon was a sensible move, though. Plus, the soon-to-be 28-year-old should be a great locker room presence, one would imagine for the Cleveland Cavaliers, too.
