Goal #1 for Ntilikina if he’s traded to the Cavs: Establish himself as a reliable three-point shooter

This season for Ntilikina has been a promising one from beyond the arc. Through nine games played, Ntilikina is shooting 13-of-21 on three-point shots. His shooting will come back down to earth but has been a bright spot for the young guard. Frank’s capabilities at hitting his three-pointers were also seen towards the end of last season as in his final eight games of the 2019-20 season, he shot 40.0 percent from deep on 3.1 attempts per game.

The majority of his three-point makes this season have been catch-and-shoot but, we have also seen Frank showcase on-ball shooting abilities. In today’s NBA, shooting is crucial for any player, especially combo guards with limited on-ball abilities. For a player like Ntilikina, this improved shooting stroke should help him stick on any NBA team with that ability alongside his defensive prowess.

Looking at how this would help him on the Cleveland Cavaliers, his off-ball shooting would make him a great pairing alongside Collin Sexton or Darius Garland, who both could mesh well with him if that were to play out.

Cleveland head coach J.B. Bickerstaff already looks to stagger Sexton and Garland so the addition of Ntilikina with a reliable shot allows for this staggering to run a lot smoother, and factoring in again, Ntilikina’s defensive capabilities.
