#2: Mixing in dropoffs to dunkers/cutters and/or lobs for the Cavs

Secondly, I’d hope to see Sexton, who has shown better feel for it as of late, mix in dropoffs to dunkers, in Allen, for example, and/or lobs/feeds to cutters, to counter pull-ups and/or sprayouts to shooters.

Sexton is obviously going to be a score-first player, as we know, and even when Kevin Love is ultimately back, Collin will clearly be Cleveland’s top option. He emerged as being that last season, and Darius Garland has solidified himself as the primary playmaker, anyhow, but Sexton’s feel as a passer has improved this season, dating back to last season, really.

And while I’d hope to see Sexton hit sprayouts at times to shooters, such as Isaac Okoro in the corners, to go with Love/Cedi Osman somewhat on drives when defenses come to help, I hope to see him mix in some feeds to cutters and again, lobs/dropoffs.

He’s seemingly improved his chemistry for finding Jarrett Allen on those sort of lobs/interior feeds in recent games, and it’s key to me to see more of that mixed in throughout games in the second half. That will only put opposing bigs/primary defenders of him retreating on-ball/in pick-and-roll in more of a bind if Sexton sees those feeds.

And conversely, if he hits a few of those in games, as we’ve seen of late, it can help open up more room for shooters on the perimeter for kickouts, or then leading to ball-swing situations, and in turn, leading to open catch-and-shoot looks. Or if Allen sees a natural look in the corner from an initial feed from Sexton via pocket pass if that’s there first, that’s a meaningful hockey assist for Collin from getting it to Allen, too.

Moreover, if Sexton can make due the rest of the way in regards to these two key points of emphasis, that will be impactful for him and the Cavaliers. I don’t see why that can’t be the case, but game-to-game, we’ll have to see.

Next. The Cavs still have a fighting chance at the postseason. dark

But with how he’s grown in recent seasons, and on-ball defensively during this season, and as last season progressed, then, he’s made strides as well, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to be extended via sizable deal this offseason. That’s seemingly a good possibility, reportedly, too.
