3 Cavs players to watch in remaining games on road trip
Cavs to watch in remaining games of this roadie: Dylan Windler
Right now, the Cavaliers are shooting 26.4 three-point shots a night, which is dead last in the NBA. In an era where three-point shots are flying at a record pace, the Cavaliers do not lack long-range shooters. They just are not letting it fly.
This is where Dylan Windler needs to step in and step up. The Cavaliers rookie hit 42.9 percent of his three-point attempts in his final year in college at Belmont. Windler is only playing around 17 minutes per night and is getting up 2.5 attempts per game beyond the arc.
One of the key aspects for a shooter is to get into a rhythm, and Windler just has not been able to get into that rhythm. He is connecting on only 30.3 percent of his three-point shots overall.
While Collin Sexton and Darius Garland are the primary scoring threats, those two need Windler as a viable shooting option beyond the arc. If Windler can find his stroke from deep, this would put the defense in a bind as helping on a driving Sexton/Garland would leave Windler open to knock down his shot.
Windler has a skill set beyond just hitting three-point shots. He is also an excellent rebounder for his position. Through the Cavaliers first two games on this road trip, he has pulled down 14 total rebounds. This strong rebounding trait can allow Bickerstaff to keep Windler on the floor when he wants to go smaller in spurts.
The young wing will have to prove his worth on this team at some point, and picking up some of the offensive slack will help the Cavaliers remain competitive in these final three games of the road trip.
While Windler looks to turn his season around, one of the newest Cavaliers is quickly making a name for himself on the Cavaliers second unit.
