Cavs: Three things that Taurean Prince brings to CLE
By Amadou Sow
Another tradeable contract for down the road for the Cavs
With the overabundance of wing players that the Cavaliers have, for Prince to stick around, he must showcase the 3-and-D capabilities that he was asked of in Brooklyn.
If he is unable to, at the very least, Prince gives the Cavaliers another tradeable contract that could be flipped for more assets, similar to Dante Exum. Exum was traded to the Cavaliers with just about two years left on his deal and was given a fresh start.
If Exum found success on the team, the Cavaliers could have re-signed him but if not, his contract was small enough where he could be flipped for assets. This is the route that Prince is most likely to take due to how the team is constructed. Looking at the roster, it seems as if he will fight against Cedi Osman over minutes, and this should be an interesting battle.
Both players are around the same age, whereas Cedi is on the longer contract but Prince makes more money.
With the drafting of Isaac Okoro, Cedi looks expendable, looking onward, and it seems as if the only thing (or things) keeping him on the Cavaliers are chemistry and shooting. His ball-movement/secondary playmaking is a plus for him, too, though, and he’s done a really nice job in that realm in recent games with the Cavs so banged up.
In Prince’s case, though, if he’s able to return to that knockdown shooter that he was with Atlanta, that may be just enough to secure his spot on this team past this current contract.
