Collin Sexton is off to a nice start for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It’s not a big surprise to me, or probably many Cleveland Cavaliers fans, but Collin Sexton has seemingly picked up where he left off last season. Leading into the prior NBA season’s novel coronavirus-induced hiatus/ultimately the end of 2019-20 for Cleveland, Sexton was on fire.

Sexton led the Cavs in scoring in his second season with 20.8 points per outing, sure, but in his last 15 games active, he had 24.5 points per game on 50.6 percent shooting. That included him hitting 44.2 percent of his 5.1 three-point attempts per contest in that span, too.

Collin has essentially just kept things going to begin his 2020-21 campaign, picking it up from there. Now, it’s been two games, and not against likely world beaters in the Charlotte Hornets, who should be improved, though, and the Detroit Pistons.

Albeit Sexton has had 27 points on nine-of-16 shooting versus Charlotte, to go with 32 points on 15-of-23 shooting versus Detroit in a thrilling double overtime W. And while I didn’t anticipate him to necessarily to be completely stumbling out of the gates, considering Sexton played in just one preseason game and was reportedly dealing with a minor ankle injury in camp, I figured there’d be a bit of rust.

Sexton reportedly had some struggles even before the ankle injury in camp, per Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, playing into that reasoning a bit.

Nonetheless, Sexton has been sharp for the most part, and he’s shown positive passing signs, which were also shown leading into the hiatus, to a degree.

In any case, Sexton has been again, keeping his hot scoring going from leading into the prior hiatus. In that realm, as was pointed out by ESPN Stats & Info, Sexton has joined Kyrie Irving (2016-17) and LeBron James (2006-07) “as the only Cavaliers with 25 points in each of the team’s first two games in the last 20 seasons.”

Clearly, Sexton is off to a hot start for the Cavs.

Sexton has looked very good at the outset of this season, and has not looked to be forcing it much. I’ve been impressed with him again showing the capability to change speeds, as he did last season, but in secondary transition, too.

Collin’s looked very under-control, and has gotten his looks often within the offense, which has jumped out. And he’s shown encouraging signs in terms of the off-ball sense alongside Darius Garland, Andre Drummond and others.

Anyhow, ESPN Stats & Info highlighting Sexton’s hot start, and him in the same company as Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, as they pointed out as far as those first two games, just shows how Collin is going to keep ascending in Year 3.

It’s evident that Sexton is undoubtedly going to be Cleveland’s top scorer once again, based on his past season/the finish to that and how he’s gone about his bucket-getting business. Sexton has, I fully acknowledge it’s two games, but has hit five-of-seven to start off his third year from three-point range, and he’s been in-rhythm from there, too.

Moreover, despite me thinking he probably could have some initially, Sexton has shown pretty minimal rust overall. It’s nice to see ESPN Stats & Info shout out the Young Bull, anyway.

We’ll see if he can keep things going in coming games, with the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, which will be a much tougher matchup, though, factoring in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, for instance, defensively.
