The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly picked up their options on Collin Sexton and their 2019 draft class.

It seemed just about the time that the Cleveland Cavaliers would be picking up team options from those involved in recent drafts.

Those that came to mind were Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Dylan Windler and Kevin Porter Jr.

For Sexton, that’s in relation to his fourth-year team option, while the others that’s for their third-year options.

Along those lines, the Cavs reportedly picked up those options for those said players on Wednesday, per a recent report from Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor.

The Cavs picking up these options was standard operating procedure, really.

The Cleveland Cavaliers picking up the team options on Sexton, Garland, Windler and Porter was standard operating procedure/a no-brainer. Sexton appears to be a player that is on the way up, and further established himself as a bucket-getter for Cleveland, and he led the Cavs in scoring at 20.8 points per game last season.

I know that Sexton needs to continue to grow in other areas, such as a secondary playmaker and in relation to team defense. With his tireless work ethic, though, he would seem to be a guy that the Cavs will eventually look to keep around for a long time, and I’d only expect him to lean more into being a primary scorer for Cleveland.

When looking at Garland, Windler and Porter, as was the case with Sexton, the Cavaliers picking up the third-year options (Sexton’s was for his fourth year, again) for them was also seemingly standard operating procedure.

Garland did have a fairly underwhelming rookie season in 2019-20, with 12.3 points per outing on only 40.1 percent shooting, and you’d have liked to have seen him have more than 3.9 assists per game.

Albeit as KJG’s Robbie DiPaola hit on, Garland reportedly toned up his frame over what was an extended offseason, and with him not seemingly being affected by his meniscus injury this upcoming season, we should see more of his quickness on display.

Hopefully, that leads to him being more capable as a shooter/scorer. On the plus side, Garland did show flashes, and in the passing realm, he did have a better 5.1 assists per outing in his last 26 games active last season. We’ll ultimately see what’s in store for him in Year 2 soon enough.

Moving to Windler, he unfortunately was not active in 2019-20 with the Cavaliers due to complications involving a stress fracture in his lower left leg.

But Windler seems to be healthy now, and though he didn’t show it in preseason much, Windler, who hit 40.6 percent of his career three-point attempts at Belmont over four years, could be a great all-around shooter for Cleveland off the bench.

His passing/cutting/rebounding feel should aid the Cavs’ efforts, too, and I thought his defensive instincts in preseason were a plus.

Lastly, the Cavs picking up Porter’s team option was no surprise, either.

Porter, who had 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest as a rookie bench contributor, showed a ton of promise.

That’s when factoring in his combination of handle, shake, spot-up shooting, athleticism/body control as a finisher and playmaking. Defensively, I believe he could become a real force in coming seasons, too.

Recently, though, Porter it appears had his legal matters resolved, and he’s inactive in Cleveland’s regular season opener on Wednesday versus the Charlotte Hornets, due to personal reasons, formally.

In that realm, the Cavs are seemingly bringing him along slowly back into the fold. Porter missed a sizable chunk of training camp, and did not participate in preseason.

There is not reportedly a set timetable as for when he will be returning for the Cavs, per Fedor, but I’d imagine in due time, KPJ will be all set. And the Cavaliers will be better off when he’s ultimately good to go, as Porter seemingly has the highest ceiling of Cleveland’s young pieces.

The Cavs, in a general sense, picking up these team options on Sexton, Garland, Windler and Porter was again, though, a surprise to nobody.
