Cavs key first half dates: A four-game home stand Feb. 17-24

Lastly, a four-game home stand for the Cavaliers featuring games versus the San Antonio Spurs on Feb. 17, Oklahoma City Thunder on Feb. 21, Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 23 and then Houston Rockets on Feb. 24 is notable to me.

This is pretty close to the 2021 All-Star break, which is set for March 5-10, and these games seem fairly winnable, for one. Atlanta looks to be much-improved, albeit defensively, we’ll see there.

As far as the Rockets and Spurs, what plays out with James Harden, who reportedly wants out of Houston, will be something to watch, but a potential matchup with Andre Drummond going up against former Pistons teammate, Christian Wood, could be entertaining.

Wood closed out 2019-20 on a tear for Detroit, as evidenced by him having 19.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 29.1 minutes per outing in last 23 games active, and he’ll be out to prove something for Houston.

Regarding San Antonio, are the expiring DeMar DeRozan and/or LaMarcus Aldridge still with the Spurs, who could seemingly look to move them at some point? Either way, Garland, Sexton, KPJ, Okoro and Dylan Windler going up against Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson and San Antonio youngsters should be fun.

Games against the Thunder and Trae Young and the Hawks, anyhow, should feature plenty of getting up and down, I’d think.

Now, could Drummond, who is seemingly a potential trade candidate, feasibly near the 2021 deadline, still with the Cavaliers at this point in the season? We’ll have to see.

In relation to the fan attendance for this home stand, if you will, we’ll again see what plays out then, but with this quasi-near the 2021 All-Star break, I’ll be looking forward to seeing if the Cavs are gelling by that time/if they do then. Maybe Drummond ends up being a really good fit alongside Love, Sexton and others by that point in the season, anyhow.
