The preseason is coming up for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers kick off their preseason for the 2020-2021 season, per a team press release, on Dec. 12 at home against the Indiana Pacers, and they’ll be playing them on Dec. 14 at home, too.

From there, the Cavs will be playing two games on the road on Dec. 16 and Dec. 18 at the New York Knicks to wrap up preseason action.

The Cavaliers have not played since March 10 because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Cavaliers were not even close to being a team eligible to play in the Orlando bubble after finishing with the second-worst record in the league, so they will have had a nine-month layoff from play. But it’ll be nice for them to get back out there in game action, though, and for us Cavs fans to see them, too.

Here, we’ll touch on the three things that Cavs fans should be most looking forward to seeing in preseason play.

The first has to do with getting a first look at Cleveland’s 2020 draft pick in game action for the Wine and Gold.

#1: Isaac Okoro’s first Cavs game action

It’s an easy answer for me. When the team you root for is losing a large majority of their games, the only light at the end of the tunnel is the potential pick you have in the lottery.

The pick holds significant meaning and has the potential to change your team’s upcoming season in big ways. Isaac Okoro was that pick.

The Cavaliers selected the defensive wing out of Auburn with the fifth overall pick. He provides quality perimeter defense, something the team has lacked so desperately these past two seasons, and fills a position of need.

The preseason is the first time we get to see him in real action and to see how he plays against the best players in the world.

With a short time between the draft and the upcoming season for NBA rookies, I am curious to see what his role is on the team in the beginning and how he fits in with the rest of the players.

The starting 3 position could be a battle, one that might take time to win with little experience from a shortened camp.
